Chai spiced French apple cake
Kitchen Mai
I have given the classic French apple cake a delicious Indian twist by flavoring it with cardamom, cinnamon and ginger powders, that enhances it's taste even more and making it perfect with a cup of tea/coffee

- 5 tbsp flour
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 4 tbsp milk
- 2 tbsp olive or canola oil
- 3 eggs
- 2 cup apples roughly chopped
- 1 cup apple thinly sliced
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 tsp ginger powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
Pre-heat oven to 180°C
In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda and all three spice powders
Make a well into that mix and add in the eggs, milk and oil. Whisk well until well combined and add in the chopped apples and gently them mix in
Pour this apple cake batter in a parchment lined cake tin and arrange the apple slices on top - bake for 25-30 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean
Remove from oven and wait until it comes to room temperature to de-mould. Slice the chai spiced French apple cake and serve with tea and/or coffee or just as is. Enjoy!
- I have used Pink Lady apples for this recipe
- If you like, you could also dust some icing sugar on the cake before slicing it
