I have given the classic French apple cake a delicious Indian twist by flavoring it with cardamom, cinnamon and ginger powders, that enhances it’s taste even more!
This classic French apple cake is a recipe that I make not just every autumn but almost anytime through the year. Since apples are my favorite fruit, I really don’t need a special season to bake this cake. However, come November, I like to spice up my apple cake with some warming and fragrant spices. And what could be a chai addict’s go to flavors for the season, but the ones that go in to make a warming cuppa? Therefore, my chai spiced French apple cake has got beautiful earthy notes of cardamom, cinnamon and ginger. Not only are the flavors perfect for the season, but they also pair really well with the apples in the cake. Even though these spices have pretty strong aromas themselves, they combine wonderfully to flavor the cake.
Moreover, since the cake isn’t overtly sweet, it makes for a yummy breakfast too. A good slice of it along side a steaming cup of tea or coffee is truly magical. Also, for a cake that tastes so incredible, the recipe is pretty straight forward. In fact, it is a “one bowl” recipe, if that makes any sense! What I mean is that, you can combine all ingredients in just one bowl and get baking. In addition to that, all of this comes together using a whisk as well. So, you don’t need any stand mixer or even a hand held electric blender. Just these few simple steps and 30 minutes more to bake and you will have an incredibly moist and delicious French apple cake to devour.

Alternative flavors
If you can’t get hold of the ground spices I have used to flavor my French apple cake, you could stick to vanilla essence. The cake is, in fact, traditionally flavored with vanilla itself. Alternately, you could also just use anyone of the three – cinnamon, cardamom, ginger powders – too. And if you’d like to stick to just one, I’d suggest you opt for cinnamon powder. The combination of apples and cinnamon is not just yummy and truly captures the essence of autumn. Therefore, you could also serve this cake as your Thanksgiving dessert. A warm slice of this apple cake topped with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream tastes incredibly amazing.
My apple cake recipe is a must try for all of you who love fruits in their cakes, like I do! This cake is not just punctuated with apples throughout but is also topped with them. Oh, a slice of apple heaven this is. The cake, when baked, remains fresh for about a week to ten days in the refrigerator. However, let me assure you that you are going to finish it much ahead of that! It tastes so good that whenever I bake it, we have to have a slice of it with our morning and evening tea! And I am hoping that you too are going to equally love it.
If you are planning to give this bake a try, I’d love to hear back from you. You can share your food pictures with me on Instagram and Pinterest. On the other hand, you could also drop your feedback in the comment section below. I’d absolutely love to hear from you.
