A quick and easy, no cook modak recipe that is so pretty and delicious too. A perfect offering for your Ganapati Bappa!
It is that time of the year when we Indians welcome the Elephant God – it is Ganesh Chaturthi. And it is also that time of the year when I miss Mumbai the most. The fun and celebrations there during this 10 day festival is something else! So, as is customary, I too made modaks for the Lord. However, mine are no cook, almond and coconut modaks. While there are loads of variations to this yummy, conical sweet, mine is a quick and easy recipe. And it is delicious as well. Additionally, I have also given my modaks a lovely rose flavour. This I have done by adding in dried rose petals and rose essence. But, I have kept it to a delicate rose flavour and an overpowering one.
The best bit about this modak recipe is that, you will need only three ingredients to make it. That is, if you choose not to go with the rose flavour. Which you easily could or substitute it with any other flavour of your choice. For instance, saffron, cardamom or you could keep it as is, without adding any flavour. After all, my almond and coconut modaks taste delectable as is, too. Now, since I have flavoured my modaks with rose, I have given them a lovely pink colour by adding edible, organic red food colour. Again, this is a personal choice, you can take a call on whether you’d want to use the colour or not.

Quick and easy recipe
You will need only 15 minutes to make these almond and coconut modaks. What more could you wish for, when prepping for other things during the festival. Also, the fact that this is a no-cook recipe, saves a lot of time. Even your children could help you make them, it is that easy. Coming to their beautiful, unique shape, I have used modak moulds to shape them. While I got mine from India, on my earlier trip, you could order them online.
Now, as far as ingredients are concerned, the primary one is almond flour or ground almonds. And this is what gives the modak its delicious flavour and texture. Secondly, I have also used desiccated coconut. After all, how can modaks be complete without them right? Moreover, the coconut here imparts a delicious taste, too. And the last one is condensed milk. So, you see all three things that you will need to make these modaks, are all easily available. Also, if you wish to make almond flour at home, you could do so too. And the rose petals and rose essence are the extras that I have used for flavour.
