Last year I had experimented with a lot of fruit flavored iced teas and loved most of them. However, I was only able to post the recipe of my watermelon iced tea, here. This year I hope to share more of those recipes, starting with my mango iced tea recipe. I couldn’t have delayed this one, lest the Indian mango season runs it’s course! So, yes this recipe is again  another one with our beloved fruit. I have made this iced tea with fresh Alphonso mango pulp, but you could use the canned ones too. And this along with English tea bags is all that you need to make this yummy, refreshing drink. If that’s not available to you, substitute them with Indian loose tea leaves.

Now, since the mangoes I used are seasonal and ripe, I did not have to use any sweetener in my mango ice tea. But if you like, you could use sugar syrup or honey or maple syrup in yours. This and a couple simple steps will yield a lovely iced tea that you and your loved ones will enjoy!

Brewing the tea for iced tea

  • It is important to “cold brew” black tea when using it to make iced tea, so as to prevent it from turning bitter
  • To do so, let the tea bags (or tea leaves) steep in cold/room temperature water for about 2-3 hours. This will ensure that the tea is full of flavor and not bitter, something that will happen if you use hot water
  • If you enjoy your tea stronger, let the tea brew for 6 hours or longer up to 12 hours, while refrigerating it
  • Once done, discard the tea bags (or strain the leaves) and use it

Once you have the tea ready, all that is left to do is stir in the mango pulp, add a few cubes of ice and sip on it. You could also add a few slices of lemon and even mint leaves to your tea. The mango iced tea is a great drink option to serve when hosting summer parties, as well. This is one flavor that everyone from kids to adults, will absolutely love. I do hope that you are going to make is summer drink soon and also share your feedback with me. You can also share your iced tea pictures with me on Pinterest and Instagram.

Cheers!
