Easy, homemade pizza margherita
Ingredients
- 5 cups whole wheat flour
- 3 tbsp yoghurt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 can chopped tomatoes around 400ml
- 1 tbsp garlic crushed
- 2 tbsp basil roughly chopped
- 2 medium tomatoes sliced
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese cubed or as per taste
- 1 tsp chilli flaked optional
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar optional
- 8-10 fresh basil leaves for garnishing
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Knead the wheat flour, with the yoghurt, baking soda and lukewarm water in to a smooth crack free dough
- Cover the dough with damp cloth and set aside for 10 minutes
- In the mean while, heat some olive oil and the crushed garlic
- Once fragrant, add the canned tomatoes, salt and sugar. Let it cook, until the tomatoes soften and the sauce thickens
- Switch the flame, off and add the chilli flakes and basil. Remove and set it aside
- Divide your dough in two parts and roll them out in thin discs. Prick the base using a fork, so that it doesn't puff up while baking
- Transfer the pizza bases on a baking tray, lined with parchment sheet. Pre-heat oven your oven to 220 degrees C
- Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the base
- Place the tomato slices
- Now add the mozzarella
- Drizzle some olive oil over the pizzas and bake them for 12-15 minutes or until done
- Remove the pizza on a wire rack and garnish with fresh basil. Serve warm
Notes
- These proportions of ingredients, yielded two 10'' pizzas
- You could also use plain flour (maida) for the pizza base in the same proportion
- You can use chopped, fresh tomatoes instead of the canned one
- You could also use cherry tomatoes
- Sugar is added to balance the acidity of the tomatoes. You may choose to not use it
- tbsp - tablespoon
- tsp - teaspoon
