A decadent and easy hot chocolate recipe that’s been spiced with warming chai spices to make it extra special this festive this season!
With temperatures going south, we find ourselves reaching for warming and comforting foods. And one very popular winter drink is a delicious cup of hot chocolate. Since my love to chocolate is immense, I can actually have a cup of cocoa all through the year! Nonetheless, the festive time that is now and the chill in the air just makes it more special. That’s why here I’ve flavoured my hot chocolate with some warming chai spice. And this bit extra, I think makes the drink even more cozy and yummy. After all, this is also the season for some warming spices. My chai spiced hot chocolate, besides the cocoa have cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon powders in it. Moreover, for this recipe especially, I love toasting the spices first and then adding them to the drink. This not only makes their flavour more enhanced but also makes the hot chocolate more delicious and fragrant.
Now, I’ve kept my hot chocolate alcohol free, but you could make it a dash toasty, if you’d like. Once the milk mixture is off the flame, add in a dash of some spiced rum. A good mix and you will have a deliciously boozy chai spiced hot chocolate! And since it is the season to be merry, this would be just what the grown ups need. Now, coming back to my recipe, I am a fan of dark chocolates so I’ve used a 75% dark chocolate bark to make my drink. However, you are free to choose the chocolate you love for your cup of cocoa. Moreover, I have sweetened my hot chocolate with honey, to keep it refined sugar free. But you could use any sweetener of your choice, as well.
